I have seen the Doobie Brothers in concert 7 times and I will keep going back for more. It is just incredible that even after all these years they still put on a full blown rockin' show. They still look like they are having fun.

BAD COMPANY / DOOBIE BROTHERS Tuesday, June 23, 2009 Walnut Creek There is always something to do on the weekend but Tuesday nights need any excitement injection it can get and this Tuesday was juiced up like a pro athlete with BAD COMPANY and the DOOBIE BROTHERS hitting The Creek. What a beautiful day for it, all sun with no chance of rain. You did not have to concern yourself with two seasons, one bright and warm during the day and one dark and cold later in the evening. It is officially Summer Time and all the girls are dressing accordingly. As always, the party starts on the 96rock Deck at the top of the hill. Free beer, free food, live radio broadcasting, 96rock Girls and the chance to play Corn Hole and get a free upgrade to the Front Row. The Deck was packed early; it is like a club within a club. The gentleman that won the front row upgrade was a Corn Hole pro, he had a beer in one hand and the bean bag in the other. I had an extra so 96rock Girl Jessica went to Row A with me, it is always nice to get some attractive ladies in the pit and have the 96logo present and accounted for at Ground Zero. Both bands certainly appreciated it as they kept coming to the edge of the stage to reach down and connect. I would say we hit the barricade but there was no barricade fence down front, there was no security. You went there and did what you wanted with no direction from others, and let’s be honest, we’re pro’s and don’t need guidance. It was easy to lose track of all those that said things like, “The Doobie Brothers were my first concert”. “I saw the DB in such-and-such place at such-and-such time”, everyone had their memory and if they did not, they left with one tonight after a monster set-list: 1 Take Me In Your Arms, 2 Jesus Is Just Alright, 3 Dangerous, 4 Rockin' Down The Highway, 5 Nobody, 6 Back To The Chateau 7 Guy Allison piano solo> 8 Takin' To The Streets 9 Don't Start Me Talkin' 10 Little Bitty Pretty One 11 Black Water 12 Long Train Runnin' band intros Encore: 13 China Grove 14 Without You 15 Listen To The Music The DB had the stage packed with players: keyboards, fiddle, sax, 3 guitar players, two guitars on pedestals, bass and two complete drum kits. It was a wall of sound. Skylark, the bass player sang “Takin’ To The Streets” and he was nailing it like he had a pneumatic hammer instead of that wild bass with the red LED lights in the neck. It was a driving thumping sound that was leading the charge. Marc Rosso was right there with him playing the choice of saxophones he had racked-up on the stage. You can tell the bands that have equipment techs, their brass instruments are shinny where if you pack your own load-in the gold tone is usually tarnished and oxidized. Give it up for the DB, they knew where they were as they changed the lyrics on Black Water to “Old Black Water, Keep On Rolling” “Carolina Moon, won’t you keep on shinin on me” That felt like a closing act but not this time, it is the night of the co-headliners and next up was BAD COMPANY. The sun has set so all the intensity of the lights kick in and everything gets jacked-up to the next level and that next level is where Lead Singer Paul Rodgers must reside all the time. His touring with Queen has him in great shape. He was wearing a white tank top with black pants that had rows of zippers down the front legs and he had a chrome mic stand that he was throwing in the air so high that it went out of the light frame and came down like it was reentering the atmosphere. It was a juggling act. For “Burnin’ Sky” the stage went dark, there were sounds of thunder and super nova flashes of blinding white lightning that lit up the world in strobes of movement as the stage filled with smoke then the lights turned to a red storm as the lyrics described it all: “The sky is burnin’ I believe my soul’s on fire”. So special are the moments when the theatre and the song are the same. It is another monster set-list: 1 Honey Child 2 Rock Steady 3 Run With the Pack 4 Live for the Music 5 Burnin' Sky 6 Gone, Gone, Gone 7 Electricland 8 Seagull 9 When Will I Ever Be Free? 10 Movin' On 11 Simple Man 12 Shooting Star 13 Deal With the Preacher 14 Feel Like Makin' Love 15 Can't Get Enough Encore: 16 Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy 17 Ready for Love Encore 2: 18 Bad Company How many One-Hit-Wonder bands are there out there. That one-hit can be ridden their whole career but even in their fame they must get a little jealous of those that can draw on set-lists like The Doobie Brothers and Bad Company. …fnLEE http://96rockonline.com/sectional.asp?id=32723

Have seen the Doobies twice now here in Australia. What always amazes me is their passion, I mean these guys were playing live gigs when the Beatles were still together. Both times they played with the enthusiasm of a first gig. Thank god for the Doobies to set the standard. Amazing talents. Oh yeah and thank you guys for the plectrums and drum sticks.

The Doobies always rock and always put on a great show. I've seen them several times and have never been disappointed. Good mix of classic rockers and some deep cuts. They always leave you wanting more. Can't wait to see them again!
