I have seen U2 many times and they are my heros. I did love the new record. I really did not like Atomic Bomb and only liked All That You Can't Leave Behind. Both of those tours were spectacular, though. I love the new record, it is up there with the three 90s records as my favorites, and I have been a fan since the first record, I am as old as the guys are. I sort of agree with both the positive and negative reviews, and can understand the negative reviews of this tour. I actually liked that they played so many of the songs from the record. It appears they are cutting most of the new songs from the upcoming legs. The Claw is both amazing and underused. It is so large that it disappears, as there are almost no bad sight lines unless you are in nosebleed seats. Also, they do not play to the rear of the stage that much. They sell tickets for 360 degrees but the stage is not in the middle of the stadium but at about the 20 yard line. I saw them from the front, from the seats on the side, from the field, and from the back. If you can stand up (I am middle aged, my crowd surfing days long gone) then the field is OK but the best seats are beside the stage and the red zone tickets. If you want to wait for 2 days then you can get to the inner area, which is awesome, but I can't sit outside for 2 days anymore (I sure did 25 years ago!). I was disappointed with the set lists. I loved all the new songs but I did not want to hear the same old songs. They ignored Pop and Zooropa. The Pop Tour was not that great, and so they could really have revisited the Pop record and done the songs right this time. It is a greatest hits tour for the most part so casual fans should enjoy it and I can't say that I didn't love them. U2 on a bad night is better than most anyone on a good night. This tour they are energetic and interactive. Bono's voice is showing some age, but it's still great. As for the sound, I would not get upper level seats, especially if you are indoors. Do not buy upper level seats at an indoor stadium on this tour -- I mean it, just skip the concert or get them from scalpers (or sit on ticketmaster all day the week before the tour -- they always do ticket drops and that's how I got the best seats from this tour! I got as close as ninth row on Adam's side, perfect seats.) The rear seats are fine, because the screen is so huge that you will be watching the screen instead of the stage. If you don't like the record, you might have a problem with the tour. If you only got into them this century, you might not like the set lists. They are still innovative and breathtaking and no matter how bad a show is, "Streets" can never and has never been less than a religious experience and is worth the 250 bucks just for those five minutes. However, once again, the sound is terrible in indoor stadiums in the nosebleeds -- so bad that it's not worth going to see if that's your only ticket choice. Outdoors, it's still better to be on the floor or on the side of the stage in the expensive seats. If on the floor and you cannot get next to the stage, then next to the sound booth is a sweet spot too. Compared to other bands, the band and the show are incredible. Compared to Acthung or Joshua Tree era U2, they're getting older and it shows, and the song lists are not as cohesive or intense as they were 20 years ago. I don't like acoustic numbers in stadiums, I want noise and fury and spectacle. But they are still my guys and always will be.

Feel free to go ahead and completely ignore the haters out there. The "new album" does *not* suck, the acoustics/sound was perfectly fine, the set list was not terrible, etc. etc. These guys are awesome and they always have been. They have achieved demigod status because they are fantastic but unfortunately, that dramatically increases the odds of disproportionately bad reviews and criticism that is not legitimate. Forget all of that @#$! and go see U2. Still one of the best bands EVER.

This was my first time seeing U2 and I had a blast at the show. I had GA tickets ($55 is not a bad deal either) and was near the front of the stage which is amazing looking and worth seeing in person. Their set list wasn't the greatest but still I enjoyed hearing the new songs like Magnificent and Breathe. They even did a birthday tribute to Springsteen since it was his birthday. I think a little tweaking to their set list and the 2010 shows will be even better. Muse was a decent opener too. I'd go see either band again easily.

Sorry to say I have to agree with all the negatives. I've seen them over 40 times and this show was the worst next to the Popmart tour. The new album stinks, and to play so much off of it at that ticket price is a slap in the face to the fans and completley self serving. I wrote a full review which you can see by clicking here... http://q1043.com/pages/onair/ianomalley.html?page=2 I won't be back for the summer 2010 show here in NYC unless drastic changes are made to the setlist...
