There’s good news today for fans of stripped down intimate performances by their favorite artists. PBS is reviving “Live by Request.”

Leading off the resurrected show is grammy-winning rock legend John Fogerty, who will hit the air live Nov. 7 at 9 p.m. EST.

The genius of “Live by Request” is the ability it gives fans to connect with an artist by helping to shape the set list. And this time out, viewers will be able to make their requests via multiple platforms including video, call-in, text, email and social networks like Twitter and Facebook.

During its initial 1996-2004 run, the show featured performances by acts like Tony Bennett, Elton John, John Mellencamp, k.d. Lang, Eurythmics, David Bowie, Gloria Estefan and Neil Diamond.

The live format of the show provided for a number of surprises, like when David Bowie phoned up to chat with Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart about things like Sting’s sexual prowess and Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin shocked Annie Lennox by calling in to request “There Must Be An Angel (Playing with My Heart).” (The pair reportedly didn’t get along very well during the Detroit recording sessions for their duet “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves.”)
