When’s the last time a musical television show that’s only aired one episode was so popular a cast album is already scheduled for release before a second episode airs? I’m thinking never.
Fox seems to have a monster hit on it’s hands with “Glee,” the new show from “Nip/Tuck” creator Ryan Murphy that stitches together Disney’s “High School Musical” and the cerebral, acidic humor of “Arrested Development.”
The network has just announced that each Tuesday, songs will be delivered to radio and music programmers in advance of the show’s Wednesday night airing.
The songs will also be available each week at iTunes and Columbia Records and Twentieth Century Fox Television will release “Glee: The Music, Volume 1” on Nov. 3.
I admit I’m one of the millions of people who thought the pilot episode of “Glee” was brilliant. I just hope Fox doesn’t go overboard with the hype and kill a good thing. Here's a message to the powers that be at Fox: You obviously understand the concept of leave 'em wanting more. Now that it worked, don't throw it out the window.
New episodes of “Glee” begin airing Sept. 9.
