More than two decades after he last lit up the small screen, Neil Diamond is returning to television with a live concert.

“Hot August Night/NYC,” an hourlong special filmed last summer during Diamond’s shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, will air Friday on CBS, the same day the DVD version of the show hits the shelves at WalMart.

Despite his legendary status as a performer, the singer said he’s got butterflies about going back on the tube.

“Basically I feel like an expectant father and I’m just nervously sitting around the waiting room hoping that the baby is healthy and happy,” Diamond explained.

“This is my first TV special in over 20 years, so I feel my heart beating a little faster. It’s exciting. I’m happy to still be here and doing it after all these years and I hope somebody tunes in on Friday night.”
