Automator Gets Live

Posted on Monday November 20, 2006 at 04:06 AM Add |

Dan The Automator has announced a two-and-a-half-week "live mixtape" tour of the western U.S., starting November 29 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The producer - born Dan Nakamura - will hit 14 cities in seven states, with help on the mic from Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, A.G. of D.I.T.C., Casual and Domino of Hieroglyphics, and Dredg frontman Gavin Hayes.

The trek will wrap in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre December 15.

Nakamura's long discography includes projects like Dr. Octagon, Gorillaz, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Delton 3030, and Head Automatica.

His most recent effort is Dan The Automator Presents 2K7, a collection of new basketball-themed tracks to accompany the "2K Sports" video game. The disc features raps from Slim Thug, E-40, A Tribe Called Quest, Ghostface, Mos Def and more.

"[The tour] will be the first ever (that I know of) live mixtape," Nakamura wrote recently on his MySpace blog. "It should be pretty exciting.

"There is a fairly high degree of skill involved to pull this off, so you might get to see some really incredible terrible mistakes take place if you show up (especially to the earlier dates). I'm looking foreward to see if it will all work!"

The upcoming tour is Nakamura's most high-profile road trip since 2002, when he hit the road with Gorillaz and sold out numerous North American arenas.
