Midem and THELYNK have collaborated on a 46-page white paper analyzing the state of livestreaming and virtual live experiences. The paper is based on data analysis and conversations with different sources throughout the global music industry.

Titled, “Livestream and Virtual Live Experience,” the paper is available for download here and will be the subject of further discussion at Midem 2021 during the Midem Live Summit and Midemlab’s Live Music Experiences.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the global music community, we wanted to share our findings on the future of livestreams and the virtual live experience as a key element of our ecosystem,” Midem Director Alexandre Deniot  said in a statement. “By conducting thorough research and sharing the experiences of experts, we want to offer the wider community some critical insights into the latest developments, what’s been working and why and, crucially, what will work beyond 2021. The paper contains priceless advice from the experts on navigating the virtual live world.”

The paper includes interviews with artists like David Guetta and executives like Tracy Chan, VP of Music at Twitch and Marisol Segal, Head of Digital Partnerships at AEG Presents. Some of its key points of focus include the livestreaming industry’s growth of an estimated 91.8% in 2020; Twitch’s music streaming growing by 550% on the year; the development of new livestreaming infrastructure and best practices for customer support; acceleration of ticketed livestreams in the second half of 2020; an uptick in livestreams consumed via TVs and home entertainment systems; an increased importance in relation between gaming and music; and forthcoming new immersive experiences that further push the boundaries of audience interaction with artists in digital spaces.
