One of England’s best soccer teams, Liverpool FC, got a temporary planning permission to host concerts and major events at the club’s 54,000 capacity home stadium at Anfield for the next two years.
The club plans to offer more cultural and sporting events to its supporters, the city of Liverpool and those visiting the area, the announcement on Liverpool FC’s website reads.
The planning permission granted by the city allows LFC to host up to six events per year, which are expected to take place from May 2019.
Liverpool City Council aspires to use music and sport to attract more visitors to the city.
Andy Hughes, chief operating officer at LFC, said: “We would like to thank everyone who has been involved throughout this planning process and, importantly, the local residents who provided valuable feedback at our recent drop-in sessions.
“Expanding the use of the stadium for concerts and other events will help draw additional visitors to the local area and city, provide more local jobs, increase revenue for local businesses and promote Anfield as a tourist destination.
“We will now work proactively with event promoters and Liverpool City Council to plan events while ensuring we’re all working together to minimise the impact to those who live in the local area. We are also committed to making further improvements to our match day operations and continue our engagement with local residents, councilors and other key stakeholders.”
Anfield increased it’s capacity a couple of years ago, by building a new main stand, which opened Sept. 9, 2016, and added some 8,500 seats. The club says it’s “one of the largest all seater single stand’s in European football and a world class facility for supporters to see the Reds play.”
